I have spent more hours than I can count building and designing web sites for a variety of personal projects. Over the years the learning curve has been very steep. However advancements in technology allows for web pages to be created much more easily but the process of the work has remained somewhat complicated.
How the workshop "One-Page Wonder: Simplifying Website Building for Beginners" works, is as simple and concise as the web page you are wanting to build. Each Monday I will send out the steps of the process you will work on during the week and on the following Saturday you will be invited to a 1 hour Zoom call when I will walk you through the process and work with you on your specific issues. These call will be group based but with a maximum number of participants set at 6 per session so that you will have the opportunity to learn from others who are experiencing the workshop at the same time as you.
A one-page website is exactly what it sounds like—a single web page that contains all the essential information you want to convey to visitors. Unlike traditional multi-page websites that spread content across different pages (such as an "About Us" page, a "Services" page, or a "Contact" page), a one-page website condenses everything into one cohesive, scrollable page. This minimalist approach is designed to provide a simple, streamlined user experience where visitors can quickly find what they need without navigating through multiple pages.
Key Features of a One-Page Website
As an individual or small business owner, some common struggles when it comes to having a website often revolve around time, cost, design, functionality, and marketing. Here's a breakdown of the top five struggles:
1. Lack Of Technical Skills
Do you feel overwhelmed by the technical aspects of building a website, such as coding or understanding the sheer number of platforms available? Many individuals and small business owners do not have the necessary skills to build and maintain a website.
2. Budget Constraints
Are you concerned that cost and expense in having even a starter website might be beyond your budget? Building and maintaining a professional-looking website can be expensive. Hiring a web developer, purchasing a domain, and paying for hosting services all add up, making it hard for small businesses with limited budgets.
3. Time Management
Is finding the time to create and maintain the website alongside your teaching or small business duties a major issue? Creating and maintaining a website requires time. Business owners often wear many hats, and adding website upkeep to the mix can feel overwhelming. Regular updates, content creation, and troubleshooting can drain valuable time from other business activities.
4. Content Creation
Is it challenging to decide what content to include on a single page and how to effectively communicate your brand story? Even with a functional website, many small business owners struggle with what to say. Crafting the right message, writing blog posts, creating product descriptions, and designing visual elements can be daunting.
5. SEO and Traffic Generation
Do you find it difficult to optimize your one-page website for search engines and get it to rank higher in search results? Having a website is just the beginning—getting people to visit it is another challenge entirely. Many small businesses struggle with SEO (Search Engine Optimization), social media integration, and driving traffic to their sites.
